Making Bio-Enzymes at Home
Updated: Jan 16
Bio enzymes are biodegradable, powerful, efficient, and environmentally beneficial.
What are Bio enzymes?
Bio-enzymes are beneficial bacteria, or microorganisms like fungus, yeast, and algae that create proteins known as bio enzymes. Bio-enzymes are then capable of breaking down complex organic compounds. These can be used for eliminating dirt and oil. The perfect solution for a chemical free grime and grease fighter.
How to make Bio enzymes?
The recommended combination is 1-part jaggery, 3 parts citrus peels, and 10 parts water, or 1:3:10. Jaggery is an unprocessed sugar, often known as non-centrifugal sugar, because it is not spun during production. If you don't have access to it, some recipes use blackstrap molasses instead.
Ingredients:
Citrus peels including lemon, orange, and other varieties.
Water
Jaggery (If not available use molasses)
Steps:
Collect citrus peel from oranges, lemons, and limes.
Cut the peels into little pieces and store them in a plastic jar.
Add jaggery to the container.
Pour water into the container until it is full.
Mix the contents of the container thoroughly.
Cover the jar with a lid and store in a dark area.
Stir the mixture once a week for three months and remember to burp.
After three months, strain the mixture and save the liquid in a bottle.
Why make your own?
Bio-enzymes are environmentally friendly alternatives to typical cleaning solutions, which can include dangerous chemicals. Bio-enzymes work by reacting with various soils and breaking them down into tiny molecules that are then devoured by microorganisms. The ideal treatment for stubborn stains and grease without the use of hazardous ingredients.
